Welcome!
The CAMPY Website will link students with information about math enrichment programs and opportunities. Parents, teachers and students will be invited to use the messages boards to establish dialogues for exchanging information and resources. Teachers will be able to use the site challenge questions for enriching students or to dialogue with other districts about program modifications for gifted students. The CAMPY organization welcomes you and encourages your input. We hope the site becomes a valuable resource for everyone!
MATH-TASTIC Summer Camps
Sponsored by
Associated Teachers of Mathematics in Connecticut
And the Connecticut Association for Mathematically Precocious Youth (CAMPY)
July and August dates will be posted by
Morning Sessions
Grades: 3-5
Location: Lyme-Old Lyme Middle School
Times 8:30-11:30
Fees: $100 per participant
Do you like to build?
Come and learn about the geometric world we live in. Each student will become familiar with two-and three- dimensional shapes and their nets as well as explore architectural and geometric features represented in historical buildings. You will be challenged to create your own three- dimensional building for our own Geo-city. By the end of the week, we will create a map quest and travel through village streets to challenge your friends to navigate the city.
Grades 4-6
Location: Lyme-Old Lyme Middle School
Times: 8:30-11:30
Fees: $100 per participant
Fun with Algebra
Students will engage in games and problem solving activities designed to enhance and build algebraic reasoning. They will also play challenging games such as “Equate This”, “ Hands on Equations”, “Tac Tix” and others designed to stretch the student’s thinking skills. A great camp with lots of fun and engaging learning experiences!
Grades 6-8
Location: Lyme-Old Lyme Middle School
Time: 8:30-11:30
Fees: $100 per participant
Architectural Engineering
Students will be challenged with their spatial visualization abilities to create scaled architectural drawings representing two-and three-dimensional objects including isometric views. Students will work with computer assisted drafting programs as well as various geometric and spatial puzzles. They will describe the building in detail and present the fruits of their imagination to their peers on Friday July 20st.
AFTERNOON SESSIONS
Grades: 3-5
Location: Lyme-Old Lyme Middle School
Times 12:00-3:00
Fees: $100 per participant
Virtual Dream Vacation
Students will plan the ultimate dream vacation! Given a budget to spend, students will plan travel with three friends to the country or countries of their choice. They will research the country’s culture, important geometric aspects of its architecture, and mathematical games and activities children play. Students will plan an itinerary including transportation, hotels, special excursions and distances traveled. There will be a menu of items students can choose from to include in their travels. They will create a power-point presentation of all their information and share it with classmates and family members on the final day of the course as well as play some of the games they have studied. Come join the fun as we travel the world through a mathematical lens.
Grades 4-6
Location: Lyme-Old Lyme Middle School
Times: 12:00-3:00
Fees: $100 per participant
Fun with Algebra Part 2
Students will delve deeper into writing algebraic equations or rules. They will connect geometry into the world of symbols, operations and variables. Using scale factor4s, a garden can appear with great detail on a paper as it does in a back yard. Students will continue to explore patterns by using an everyday object that becomes a mathematical manipulative to foster the student’s imagination.
Grades 6-8
Location: Lyme-Old Lyme Middle School
Times: 12:00-3:00
Fees: $100 per participant
Challenges for Problem Solvers
This is a session for students who really enjoy problem solving. Would you like more time exploring and understanding what makes a good problem and how mathematicians create them? Well, here's your chance! Hands-on puzzles, 3D puzzles, card tricks, logic puzzles, spatial visualization, codes... we will extend our learning by thinking about what makes the solutions possible and try to become creators of new challenges.
Mail application to Judy Dailey, 26 Scotch Cap Rd, Quaker Hill CT 06375
Or email judy@campy.org with the registration information.
